Some Newer Horizons In Animal Crossing: New Horizons This January

While Pac-players treated themselves to a tricky Halloween edition of Pac-Man found on the Google home page [17] [49] [50] [67], the Free Version 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the game were announced [43] [45]. Earlier this year, we have discussed and predicted what could the next chapter of the Animal Crossing franchise on the Switch 2 be like as a brand new title with several new features [71] [72] [73] [74] [82] [83], but as some of us have predicted, a Switch 2 edition of New Horizons will be out in two months [69] [70], yet not many fellow animal crossers have expected to witness the confirmation of an official Version 3.0 update that will be launched alongside it [43] [45]. I suppose the fanmade “Update 3.0” mode created by jubbsticks will have to be considered “Update 4.0” while fans of South Park witness the second chapter of the twenty-eighth season and hazbeans are amazed at how Hazbin Hotel holds the Guinness World Record for Most In-Demand Animated Show [19] [23] [68] [69] [70]. After comparing the Helluva Boss pilot to its remaster known as “Mission: Zero” and trick or treating in my copy of New Horizons [37] [61] [78] [79], let us discuss the next chapter of the Switch era of Animal Crossing that will be read in 2026, the year that will mark the 35^th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog series [43] [45] [59] [60].

I suppose the purpose of the content within the Version 3.0 update and the Switch 2 edition is to expand the New Horizons era’s life expectancy [43] [45], yet some animal crossers are still dreaming of a new title that can bring on some experiences [71] [72] [73] [74] [82] [83], such as an underwater village to explore once you transform into a mermaid or merboy [37]. But for now, let us discuss how the next chapter can especially be enriching on the Switch 2 in 2026, the year of the horse [30]. Wait! Does that mean that it will be the year of Ponyta and Rapidash, according to Pokémon trainers [6] [7]?! [43] [45]

Before we discuss the full potential of the Version 3.0 update, let us look at the exclusive features in the forthcoming Switch 2 edition [43] [45]. The mouse controls for designing clothing items and artwork, as well as quirky posts on the bulletin board, could be ideal for a digital artist who loves making art with their mouse [46]. The megaphone would be quite useful for finding a specific resident on the island [43] [45]. Looks like there will be room for four more players hanging out on an island online and a dozen players on one island will have the option to show their faces above their avatars by the power of the Switch 2 Camera, which is a reminder of the demonstration of the full functionality of playing the Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree known as “Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV” online [44]. It is a resort hotel for villagers to stay at in differently themed rooms to customise, which is very much like specifically themed vacation homes to design for clients in the paid DLC known as “Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise” [38]. amiibo cards can be used to summon guests at the hotel, much like how they can in The Roost [37] [43] [45]. A new rewards system is being given hotel tickets for helping the hotel maintain its credibility to buy exclusive souvenirs. And of course, considering that New Horizons is notable for its aspects of crafting items, such as tools and furniture [37], items to craft near the hotel can be delivered to those outside of the island by Kapp’n in exchange for hotel tickets [43] [45]. I suspect that new duties at the hotel will result in new ways to earn Nook Miles [37]. The idea of running and customising a holiday hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is “Happy Home Paradise V2.0” to me [38], which makes me excited to try out the feature after the update is released [43] [45].

Running a hotel for visitors to stay at ought to be a lot more satisfying than having only one camper at the campsite [37] [43] [45]. If an animal crosser ends up preferring Tortimer’s Island from New Leaf over the hotel in the upcoming Version 3.0 for New Horizons [48], that is no problem. After all, some animal crossers prefer the New Leaf era over the New Horizons age for fair reasons [71] [72]. But still, I cannot go wrong with dressing up the mannequins to encourage some trends [43] [45]. [43] [45]

Oh! And did I mention that bulk crafting, which is being able to craft more than one item you wish to craft with the right number of materials, will be introduced in the upcoming update [16] [43] [45]? We all know how capitalism works by now. [43] [45]

A new feature for when an animal crosser’s avatar goes to bed is entering a new island named a “Slumber Island” [43] [45]. The player who dares to dream will be able to design their Slumber Island in the way they can design their Reality Island [37], but choose any tree they would like to plant, decide the time of day, along with the weather, and add a certain number of residents from Reality Island [43] [45]. And yes, a Slumber Island version of Lloid who wears an old-fashioned nightcap can help build slopes and bridges, much like in the main island in reality. The player will be able to create three Slumber Islands, which is much like how there can be multiple save files, resulting in multiple towns in Animal Crossing: Population Growing, but only one per memory card [4]. Being rather ambitious, I would probably choose all three of my Slumber Islands to be large for increased creative freedom, thus making up for how I wish my main island in reality could be bigger [37] [43] [45]. Lastly, up to a dozen fellow animal crossers can visit and even help construct and decorate a Slumber Island, much like in the Reality Island. Hopefully, there will be no spooky towers of blocks to climb, especially if most of the residents in reality are sheep [1].

This feature may require an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to be fully accessible [43] [45]. Surely, you can name the Slumber Islands, right? Perhaps I will name my Slumber Island “Bloop Island” after all the funny attempts at naming an unnamed island in the third volume of Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Deserted Island Diaries [57]. In the meantime, there is a theory that the Speaker of God from the second season of Hazbin Hotel is the long-lost mother of Stolas from Helluva Boss [34] [36] [63], as far-fetched as that sounds. [43] [45]

Aside from what appears to be Mr. Resetti’s redemption arc as he will run his own cleaning service in the Version 3.0 update [43] [45], I am amazed to see brand new villagers resembling certain characters from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Splatoon 3 [31] [32]. I can already imagine Cece or Viché who previously appeared in New Leaf to represent Callie and Marie from Splatoon and have been redesigned to resemble Frye Onaga and Shiver Hohojiro from Splatoon 3 [20] [21] [29], staying in a Splatoon-themed room and Tulin or Mineru unwinding in a Zelda-themed room at the hotel [31] [32] [43] [45]. Aside from new villagers being part of collaborations with other Nintendo franchises, there will also be a collaboration with LEGO, resulting in a new line of LEGO-styled furniture that can be customised after being crafted. As for Resetti’s new service, it can be useful for decluttering your yard, the beach, or anywhere else on the island. If you ask me, inviting the mole to stay at the hotel in a LEGO-themed room would be an addition to his redemption arc as if he were a guest at Hazbin Hotel [2] [3] [52] [56]. Would a prinny like to join him [22]?

Personally, I think these two squirrels should have been completely new characters to resemble Frye and Shiver from Splatoon 3 [20] [21], so that Cece or Viché can keep their looks representing Callie and Marie [29]. Nonetheless, it is interesting to see the two squirrels representing entirely different Splatoon characters to expand on their passions for cosplaying [43] [45]. [43] [45]

I also wonder if Resetti’s brother, Don, will make an appearance in the update as well. Perhaps he will appear in his place sometimes, which was the case for his original role as the one to scold the player for not saving their game [39]. [43] [45]

 
What else is there to discuss regarding the next big update? An active Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to access a retro Nintendo game to play once you own an old-school console, such as a Nintendo Entertainment System or Famicom, that can be bought from the hotel [43] [45], which is a throwback to playing old-school Nintendo titles in Animal Crossing: Population Growing [18] [24]. As for the Love Tester, my little red-nosed ranger would try it out with Eugene, the koala who resembles my fiancé, which is why I have shipped them together since I played Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp [40] [75] [76]. The maximum storage capacity will be expanded to nine-thousand items in your house and those can include plants, such as flowers and trees [43] [45]. But alas, if only that would also result in a new upstairs room for the house…after the player pays a new outrageously pricey mortgage, of course [37] [39]. As exciting as the Version 3.0 update for New Horizons on the Switch and Switch 2 sounds [43] [45], I still think there still ought to be some efforts to establish a competent sequel to New Horizons, possibly titled “New Horizons 2” in the future to further decrease the risk of the sales of the Switch 2 being as unsatisfactory as the Wii U’s sales [5] [71] [72] [73] [74] [82] [83]. The same applies to developing the next big step in the Super Mario, Splatoon, andThe Legend of Zelda games for the Switch 2 [69] [70].

It looks like Ice Climber will be featured once an animal crosser owns an NES as an example of certain classics being featured in the upcoming Version 3.0 update [43] [45]. This seems like quite an engaging aspect of the new rewards system when it comes to helping the hotel become successful. [43] [45]

In conclusion, the enhanced port of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the big update for both ports are sure to let new Animal Crossing vibes flourish this January [43] [45]. In the meantime, I shall follow the rest of the next chapter of the story about Charlie Morningstar’s hotel for sinners to be redeemed at on Prime Video while Fortnite fighters fight in Fortnite: Battle Royale and LEGO Fortnite with new sidekicks [13] [52] [53] [54] [55] [56] [62]. Aside from how I think there ought to be a tenth volume of the hilarious manga known as “Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Deserted Island Diary” or a direct sequel series based on the Version 3.0 update [43] [45] [47], I predict that there will be about eight more game packs for The Sims 4 to balance out the number of expansion packs, as well as the number of stuff packs [64] [65] [66], if the game will still be relevant alongside the outcome of Project Rene [77]. Speaking of predictions, I am sure that we can still predict a new Animal Crossing title that will serve as a sequel to New Horizons with plenty of reminders of New Leaf for the Switch 2 [71] [72] [73] [74] [82] [83]. Autistic people like me need some form of escapism in a toxic post-woke world where new lines are being crossed [9], so I will be sure to start a new chapter with the Version 3.0 update, especially for the sake of running a new resort hotel, for my copy of New Horizons in 2026 [43] [45].

Hopefully, I can run the resort hotel as proudly as I designed over two hundred vacation homes in Happy Home Paradise [38] [43] [45]. And hopefully, Kamala Harris can run for president once again in 2028 and become America’s first female president in history after winning the election [11] [12]. In the meantime, Fortnite fighters are exploring Springfield with the Simpsons and Deadpool will return to Disneyland to read some seasonal stories to an older audience after spending Halloween with Wolverine and Ghostface from the Scream franchise [8] [10] [14] [15] [58]. And as always, let us keep striving for kindness and against bigotry [35] [51]. [43] [45]

When Will Dr. Eggman Reactivate His Mean Bean Machine?

Puyo Pop Fever has been one of my favourite video games for the Nintendo DS for as long as I can remember [51]. As a result, I am familiar with the Puyo Puyo franchise. My infatuation with the series has resulted in me winning about three tournaments in the minigame from Sonic Mania based on Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine [55] [64]. Certain gameplay antics in Dustborn may be concerning and not set up a good example [80] [81], but the skill of building the biggest chain of puyo popping possible can be considered one of those gamer necessities, especially if you happen to be fond of a series that is mostly exclusive to players in Japan [15] [51]. Moreover, I wonder if Sonic Team will establish a modern equivalent of Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine [64]. Surely, the Mean Bean Coffee Café in the second live-action movie distributed by Paramount Pictures can be part of the inspiration for establishing a soft reboot of Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine [62] [64]. [65]

Since we know that Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is primarily the enhanced version of the first game in the Puyo Puyo series but localised for Western players, “Dr. Eggman’s Mean Puyo Machine” might as well be a crossover with most of the cast of the Puyo Puyo games. After all, both franchises celebrated their 20^th anniversaries back in 2011 [40] [54]. I remember being starstruck by a crossover with Amitie and Ms. Accord in the “Puyopuyo!! Quest Collaboration Event” in Sonic Runners that promoted Puyopuyo!! Why not let the blue speedster be the main protagonist, considering that he became a playable character in the first update for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 back in 2021 [45] [69]? I see a lot of potential in the princess of Soleanna going on her own adventure without Sonic in a separate course, considering how she never met him after all due to the events of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) being erased [57] [58] [61]. Perhaps she could have a new human girlfriend who is a noble knightess, resulting in a new relationship that could be partially like the one between Charlie Morningstar and Vagatha, also known as “Vaggie” in Hazbin Hotel [38]. Reflecting on a father-and-daughter-relationship that gradually bloomed in Sonic Frontiers, I strongly believe that Sage could be an opponent [53]. And of course, Cubot and Orbot can work as a duo, just like Yu and Rei who first collaborated in Puyo Puyo Fever 2 [15] [41]. The possibilities sound almost endless. No reference to Sonic Unleashed intended…or was it [59]?

Sonic’s special guest appearance in the first update for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 was considered part of his 30th anniversary [69]. [45]

As we let Elise be her tender-hearted self but with a lot more independence and confidence aside from a new romantic relationship as a sign of her father still being alive [57] [58] [70], we can leave the roasting and sass to Daxter from the Jak & Daxter games [5] [6]. She ought to make a big comeback in a cute and cartoony art style like her grand return in the Sonic Channel back on April 2023 as it reminds me of the modern character designs in the Puyo Puyo series [43] [44] [45] [61] [67] [70]. [66]

The most vital aspect would be to ensure that the gameplay is top-notch with the essence of the modern Puyo Puyo games, including Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop [43]. As a result, the art style would either be the same as the characters’s vibrant appearances in Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop or the art style in Puyo Puyo Tetris and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 [43] [44] [45]. Gameplay wise, the experience ought to remain as engaging as the Puyo Puyo Tetris duology [69], but without any involvement with tetrominoes, yet the memorable combination of the two puzzle games could return as a bonus that will be explained later [44] [45]. And yes, it ought to become more and more challenging as the story in each chapter progresses, much like in Puyo Pop Fever and its sequel, especially the HaruHaru course [41] [51]. A classic mode, especially in a 16-bit style like in the Mean Bean Machine battle in Sonic Mania would be a treat for old-school players would be a treat for old school players as it worked in Puyo Pop Fever [51] [55]. Chances are that “Dr. Eggman’s Mean Puyo Machine” will be a mobile game to serve as an alternative to Candy Crush Saga [18], but part of me would prefer it to be a game for consoles, especially the newly revealed Nintendo Switch 2 [35].

Despite challenge being more important than how female characters look in a game [8], I am not sure about welcoming back the “Super Spicy” difficulty from Puyo Puyo Tetris 2…or the red and green puyos might become shaped like chilli and jalapeño peppers [20]. And speaking of Candy Crush Saga [18], Candy Crush Solitaire will be launched a week and a day before Valentine’s Day [3]. Things got sweet AND spicy here, huh? Quite like a new Princess Peach in an M-rated game. [67]

Some downloadable content could enrich the overall experience after the base game’s release and reception. A DLC pack for “Dr. Eggman’s Mean Puyo Machine” could bring Kirby from his own game franchise as the Western port of Super Puyo Puyo for Super Nintendo Entertainment known as “Kirby’s Avalanche” or “Kirby’s Ghost Trap” featured him and his co-stars instead of Robotnik and his clan [19] [74], but that would only be available for the Nintendo Switch 2 port since Nintendo properties are mainly first-party material. Moreover, you may recall Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser exclusively on the Wii U port of Skylanders: SuperChargers [37]. Another DLC pack could feature the stars of Project Mirai DX as I know how fun its minigame known as “PuyoPuyo 39!” is and how adorable Hatsune Miku looks in an outfit based on Arle, along with how adorably badass KAITO looks in his Dark Prince cosplay [39] [50]. A third DLC pack might as well bring on a “Mean Puyo Tetris” mode with the characters from the Puyo Puyo Tetris duology based on tetrominoes [44] [45], but perhaps no more than six crossovers will prevent “Dr. Eggman’s Mean Puyo Machine” from becoming too reliant on crossovers, which is what the world of Fortnite is still receiving a little flak for [9] [10] [26]. I am up for crossovers, but the impact of them may not always be appreciated [25]. 

The DLC pack based on Kirby’s Ghost Trap might as well be titled “Kirby’s Puyo Avalanche” or “Kirby’s Puyo Trap” when it comes to a downloadable crossover between the pink cutie pie and the blue blur outside of the Super Smash Bros. series [19] [30] [31] [32] [33] [74]. [19]

I am not saying that a modern equivalent of Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine will definitely happen anytime soon [64], but it is always fun to discuss ideas for future instalments, especially if you have studied the aspects of game designing at college and university [76] [77]. It is more likely that a direct sequel to Sonic Frontiers could consist of a multiplayer mode featuring Shadow the Hedgehog as Player Two, leading him to understand how Luigi feels and there might as well be a threequel to the memorable crossover between Puyo Puyo and Tetris simply titled “Puyo Puyo Tetris 3” or a notably different addition to the Puyo Puyo franchise that could not only be a more effective revival of the Nazo Puyo series but also introduce it to Western players outside of Japan [28] [29] [42] [46] [60], especially for the successor to the Nintendo Switch [34] [35]. In the meantime, we shall see the outcomes of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Chao Tales and possibly eight new Helluva Shorts throughout the rest of 2025 [1] [63] [73]. And yes, I shall continue to relive those simpler times in a notably new way in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and I am planning to get the Happy Home Paradise expansion for my birthday [27] [75] [78] [79].

Can you imagine the full outcome of what appears to be Mario Kart 9 in a certain first-look trailer or “Dr. Eggman’s Mean Puyo Machine” on this bad Game Boy [35] [76] [77]? Well, there is a lot of hope that he will ultimately be a good successor and the same mistakes that resulted in the Wii U selling mediocrely will not made again [76] [77], despite how disappointed some of us are so far. We shall see more of its potential on the next Nintendo Direct this April [34]. In the meantime, Moana is competing in the second part of the eleventh season of Disney Speedstorm and plenty of animal crossers in the United Kingdom are sure to dive into an event based on Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the National SEA LIFE Centre, starting with the one in Manchester this February [7] [23] [36] [49]. [35]

And speaking of shorts, be sure to show some support for upcoming fanmade projects, such as a trilogy of mini-episodes that will take place before the second season of the audio series created by Emi Jones known as “Sonic and Tails R” [17]. And no, Bart Simpson, I will NOT eat YOUR shorts [48]!
